About Radius

Formally, Radius CoWork is a private community and economic development organization that operates Erie’s coworking space and business incubator located in the historic Renaissance Centre in downtown Erie, PA. It provides facilities, equipment, programming, social networking, and direct services to support Erie’s startups, small business owners, freelancers, and remote workers.

Informally, Radius is an evolving group of 200+ people who want a clubhouse where they can share the cost for a decked out office, support each other by sharing their various skills, make friends, and be more successful in their work than they would be if they spent all day alone.

The people who come here are “members,” like a gym, but for business. Instead of treadmills, we have desks. But the primary value Radius creates isn’t an office or equipment – it’s an immensely talented and well-connected community of entrepreneurs and professionals who support and mentor one another. It’s about relationships, not space.

About the job

As a Community Organizer, we assist members and guests as they make use of the coworking space. In part, the job is about building relationships. With over 200 members, we spend time getting to know them and, more importantly, helping them get to know each other. When an engineer (Rebecca) wants to know something about taxes, we introduce them to a CPA (Jessie). Often, we’re organizing a potluck, happy hour, taco Tuesday, or trip to a concert together. But we also plan Lunch & Learns for educational opportunities.

In part, this requires physically organizing the space. With 13,000sqft of space available 24/7/365, our team keeps everything in good order to meet people’s work needs. We sweep, water plants, make coffee, and generally clean up. Members share this responsibility, but we’re here to guarantee everyone has a great experience.

And of course, we’re always telling our story. You may have a hand in composing newsletters, social media posts, videos, or print media.

The relative experience, interests, and schedule availability of each team member may give you more responsibility over one area or another. e.g. Media contributions depend on level of interest and skill. Ultimately, we’re all responsible for creating a great community.

  • Open the facility and make it ready to welcome members and guests

  • Close the facility and prepare it for morning opening before securing the space for the night

  • Provide tours of the space, providing an explanation of who our members are and what Radius offers

  • Organize events, invite attendees, and facilitate the gathering

  • Get to know our members so that we can discover how to meet their needs

Required knowledge, skills, abilities

  • Familiarity with google tools (docs, sheets, forms, gmail)

  • On-your-feet light physical activity for 1-2hrs each shift

  • You’re a people-person

  • We have NO requirements for education or industry experience

Helpful knowledge, skills, abilities

  • Familiarity with Trello, Mailchimp, Squarespace, Slack

  • Intuitive grasp of how to be cool online

  • Photography/videography skills

  • Graphic design

  • Experience using simple hand tools for assembling furniture, equipment, or making minor home repairs

The Unique Part

Being a Community Organizer at Radius is usually a temporary role. All the members here are working on big projects, and we want YOU to be working on a big project, too. Maybe you want to start a small business, maybe you’re a student completing a degree, or maybe you are in transition between careers and want some time and a place to explore your options.

When we hire a Community Organizer we expect them to be with us for 1-3yrs while they work toward their goal. We’ll support you in that process in a few ways:

  1. Income. You’ll have a job with us providing some financial stability.

  2. Membership. You’ll have access to Radius to work on your project, just like any member.

  3. Mentorship. You’ll be supported by the staff and members, benefitting from their skills and guidance.
